This page details the public MPV Profiles and Specifications available for download. OSTA’s MPV committee is always developing and ratifying new profiles and guideline specifications so come back often to check for new ones.

OSTA Intellectual Property Policy:

The OSTA specification documents include a Terms of Use notice which you should read carefully. During the specification development, OSTA members that contribute to the specifications submit an OSTA IP Contribution and Disclosure form. Please contact OSTA by sending an email to mpvlicensing@osta.org to learn more about the forms on file from contributing members for each specification.

The MPV Interoperability Specification

The MPV Interoperability Specification defines guidelines for implementing MPV to ensure interoperability on consumer electronics devices with limited performance (CPU power, system memory, etc.).

MPV Portable Storage Profile Specification

The MPV-PS Profile specification assists consumers and manufacturers in the storage and management of large collections of digital media files stored on CDs, DVDs or memory cards. This specification defines the minimum requirements of a directory tree structure which is suitable for the storage of thousands of digital still pictures and video for a long period.

The MPV Music Profile specification supports the definition, playback, and exchange of rich multimedia music collections.

Current MPV (MusicPhotoVideo) Specs:

With the introduction of the Music Profile, the MPV specification was renamed to MPV (MusicPhotoVideo) at the Dec. 3, 2002 OSTA meeting. The specifications were re-released as 1.01 under the MPV name, with the new logo and mention of the Music profile, on Mar. 11, 2003. At a technical level, they are unchanged from the 1.00 release.
